This is the home page for BurgerSpace, a hamburger-smashing video game. It is a clone of the 1982 BurgerTime video game by Data East.

BurgerSpace 1.10.0 is out (2024-05-25). This version is based on flatzebra 0.2.x and SDL2. The full screen mode now shows the correct aspect ratio.

Requirements (on a GNU/Linux system): SDL2, SDL2_image, SDL2_mixer, SDL2_gfx, SDL2_ttf. The sources might compile on other Unix-like systems.

On an Ubuntu or Debian system, these distribution-provided packages should be installed first: libsdl2 libsdl2-image libsdl2-mixer libsdl2-gfx libsdl2-ttf. To compile the game from the source code, these packages should be installed first: libsdl2-dev libsdl2-image-dev libsdl2-mixer-dev libsdl2-gfx-dev libsdl2-ttf-dev.

The sources are in C++ and can be compiled and installed with the familiar ./configure && make && make install sequence.

Game Play

You should see an entry for BurgerSpace in the Games menu. The command burgerspace runs the game. Use the arrow keys to move, the Ctrl key to throw pepper, and P to pause the game and resume it. The Escape key quits the game.

There is a command-line option --z-for-pepper which allows you to shoot with the Z key instead of Ctrl.

Thanks
